Рекомбинация, протекающая в процессе митоза (при митотическом кроссинговере), впервые была продемонстрирована Г. Понтекорво с сотр. в 1952 в работе с Aspergillus; для обозначения аналогичного процесса у диплоидных эукариот чаще применяется термин «соматическая рекомбинация».
